DSP Money Manager Fund Explained

How does it work?

It usually invests your money in debt securities of highly rated corporates. The fund declares the complete list of these securities every month in a transparent manner

Why is it relatively safe?

The fund usually invests in highly rated debt securities that are up for maturity within 180 days from the date of investment. Interest rates over short duration are less likely to be volatile, and hence investments made in this fund are relatively safe

How it aims to give better returns?

The fund keeps only 0.25%* of investment value as its fees. It's unlike your savings account, where the bank retains the majority of the interest earned on your money with themselves

What is DSP Money Manager Fund?

DSP Money Manager Fund is an income scheme, that aims to generate returns by investing in money market instruments and/or debt securities

  • +

But what is an income scheme?

Income schemes are fixed income funds that

    - Aim to generate returns by investing in companies or financial institutions through money market instruments and/or debt securities

    - The interest that they earn from these investments forms the basis of returns generated by these funds

  • +

Is money safer in DSP Money Manager Fund compared to equity funds?

    Yes

    - In equity funds, the money is invested in stocks of the company while debt funds including DSP Money Manager Fund invest in bonds or deposits of various kinds.

    - DSP Money Manager Fund mostly invests money in bonds or deposits issued by highly rated companies. This may reduce the credit risk - the possibility of the lender not being able to pay back the principal and the interest

    - Additionally, DSP Money Manager Fund typically buys bonds or deposits papers of shorter duration - this means when the fund manager of this scheme chooses to invest in a paper, then, at the time of investment, the residual maturity of the paper doesn't exceed 180 days. It is unlikely that the credit or financial situation of a highly rated company can degrade in such a short span of time

    - This short duration also ensures mitigation of another type of risk debt funds have- interest rate risk

    - Interest rate changes in economy can affect the market price of debt securities which eventually affects returns generated. However since over short-term interest rates don't change drastically, nor do the price of these type of debt securities. And hence, the returns which you may get from DSP Money Manager Fund could be relatively stable

  • +

Can I access my money anytime like a savings bank account?

    - Yes. With our Instant Redemption feature you now get similar liquidity as a savings bank account

    - The money gets transferred instantly to your account the moment you request it. Be it 2:00 a.m. in the night or a holiday. Even if you have to pay for movies or say a restaurant, simply put in a request and get redemption amount instantly.

  • +

Understood, so I should move all my savings to DSP Money Manager Fund?

Yes, just maintain requisite minimum balance and invest rest of your savings like

    - Emergency fund or the money that is sitting idle in your savings account

    - The money that is blocked in Fixed Deposits

In Money Manager Fund your money will work harder and aims to generate better returns for you
